L-3 Link’s Asian Aviation Training Center

Enhances Airbus 320 Full Flight Simulator Realism

An A320 Full Flight Simulator (FFS) installed at the L-3 Link Simulation & Training (L-3 Link) Asian Aviation Training Center (AATC) in Bangkok, Thailand, has been recertified to Level D by the EASA.

Built on L-3 Link’s RealitySeven simulation solution, the A320 FFS had previously attained Joint Aviation Authorities Level D certification and has been providing training at the AATC for 12 months. In December 2012, the A320 FFS – which is integrated with RSI Visual Systems’ XT4 image generator – was upgraded with Projectiondesign’s FL35 DLP LED projection system. The simulator became the first in the Asia-Pacific region to adopt the FL35 projection technology.

“The decision to upgrade our Asian Aviation Training Center’s A320 simulator with the FL35 projection system has resulted in improved training device performance, which far exceeds regulatory requirements in the critical areas of vertical-field-of-view, light point resolution, brightness and runway recognition at range,” said Lenny Genna, president of L-3 Link. “In addition to equipping our RealitySeven simulator with enhanced training capabilities, this upgrade allows us to reduce maintenance costs while significantly extending the service life of the visual system projectors.”

L-3 Link Simulation & Training has delivered military and civil training systems to customer locations throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the Pacific Rim. L-3 Link is headquartered in Arlington, Texas, with key bases of operation in Binghamton, NY; Orlando, FL; Oklahoma City, OK; Broken Arrow, OK; Phoenix, AZ; and Crawley, U.K.
