NBAA Praises US-UK Aerospace Tariff Policy

Return To Net Zero Part Of Economic Prosperity Plan

The National Business Aviation Association commended the return to zero-for-zero tariffs on aerospace products from the United Kingdom that was part of an Executive Order (EO) issued by President Donald Trump on June 16 titled, “Implementing the General Terms of the United States of America – United Kingdom Economic Prosperity Deal.”

The EO removes the previously-levied 10% tariffs on aircraft and parts imposed on the UK under an earlier presidential action, and those tariffs will no longer apply to these products.

The Order recalls the 1979 Agreement on Trade in Civil Aircraft that more than 30 countries signed onto that creates a zero-for-zero fair and reciprocal trade agreement in civil aviation. That agreement stipulated that no duties or tariffs would be imposed on civil aircraft, engines, or related parts.

Participants also commit to maintaining standards equal to the FAA’s certification and manufacturing standards.

The new EO resulted from the General Terms for the United States of America and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Economic Prosperity Deal of May 2025. That agreement establishes a framework for trade between the U.S. and the UK.

Ed Bolen, President and CEO of NBAA said, “The 1979 Agreement on Civil Aircraft has had a profound impact on global aerospace advancement. In fact, civil aviation in the U.S. aerospace industry has a $104 billion trade surplus, leading all other sectors, while providing 1.8 million U.S. jobs. The 1979 agreement has not only created a level playing field for the U.S. and other countries in aviation and aerospace; it has also had a direct impact on global safety in the sector.

He added, “NBAA welcomes the Administration’s decision to return to the zero-for-zero tariff agreement for products from the United Kingdom, and strongly encourages the Administration to return to the 1979 Agreement on Civil Aircraft with the remaining participating countries.”
