Report: 'AlQaeda Operative' Worked for FBI

Right Hand, Meet Left Hand...

Reporter David Rennie, of the British tabloid, The Telegraph, reports that Iyman Faris, aka Mohammed Rauf, was, "...used by the FBI for months as a double agent." As if to corroborate that, TIME magazine dug around a bit, when the Iyman Faris story broke, and found out that the US DoJ "...secretly detained [Faris] about two weeks after the dramatic capture on March 1 in Pakistan of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, al-Qa'eda's chief of operations."

Just how much control, if any, the FBI used on Faris, who, among other things, did some research on ultralights as possible weapons (and apparently recommended against using them), was not disclosed by either publication. The FBI rarely discloses the extent of its involvement in such operations.

Faris, who pleaded guilty to a smorgasboard of crimes, faces up to 20 years in prison, when he gets sentenced in August.
