Beloved Dog Rescue Pilot Killed in NY Plane Crash

Two Dogs Survive, Community Pays Tribute to Seuk Kim

49-year-old Seuk Kim, a well-known and loved dog rescue pilot, was killed in a plane crash in a remote part of New York. After learning of his tragic death, tributes from across the community began pouring in to honor Kim’s inspirational work.

Seuk Kim began flying during the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly connected with volunteers for local animal rescue organizations. He decided to join the cause and help nonprofits fly dogs out of kill shelters through Pilots N Paws.

“He has helped save countless dogs and cats over the years, all of which he did as a volunteer out of the goodness of his heart,” the organization expressed. “He was a giving and selfless soul and we are so lucky to have had a chance to know him. Words cannot describe the impact he made on so many lives, both two and four-legged.”

On November 24, just after 6:00 pm, Seuk was transporting three dogs from Maryland to Albany, New York when his single-engine aircraft went down. A search team reached the site early the next morning and learned that Seuk and one of the dogs were killed on impact. Another dog, a lab-mix, was taken to a local vet with two broken legs. The last had only minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

Family, friends, rescue organizations, and other members of the community immediately reached out to share their love and respect for Seuk’s mission.

“From a young age, Seuk dreamed of taking to the skies, and he made that dream a reality by becoming a pilot. He found immense joy in flying and used his passion to help others,” Christine Kim, Seuk’s cousin, wrote on Facebook. “Seuk was more than just a pilot; he was a champion for others, a friend to all, and a deeply loved member of his family.”

Christine Kim has also opened a donation page to support Seuk’s family, including his wife and three children. Contributions will go towards funeral costs and following hardships.

The FAA is currently investigating the accident.
