Aero-TV: Life With No Regrets -- Michael Combs' Flight for the Human Spirit

Every Life Is An Adventure -- But, Some More Than Others...

The story of Michael Combs starts out like many others.

"When I was a kid, I had always wanted to fly. I remember looking at clouds and other airplanes, and thinking that someday I would be there. Unfortunately, and so many other people can relate to this, I put it off. 'It's too expensive. I don't have a pilot's license. I don't have an airplane,' and on and on and on it would go.

"In August of '03, my heart stopped. Twice. The following December, I was alert enough to realize I was never going to fly, and it hit me like a ton of bricks, because I had every opportunity to fly, and didn't. So I promised myself that day that I was going to start living my life with no regrets."

A year later, the Sport Pilot certificate and Light Sport Aircraft segment became regulatory reality in the US, and a way to fulfill his dream emerged. For Michael, living life without regrets took the form of earning his certificate, then undertaking an epic, 50-state cross-country flight in a Remos GX LSA.

Called the most technologically advanced LSA ever built, the GX was equipped with XM Satellite Weather, satellite phone, GPS tracking which automatically updated both his mission control center and his website, and a video camera. He launched on April 8, 2010.

When interviewed by ANN's Jim Campbell in November 2010, Michael had touched down in 49 states with one to go, and reflected on his story, and the lessons it holds for all of us who sit behind our desks and dream.
