FAA’s Wright Bros. Master Pilot Award Goes To Doug Roth

Becomes Sixth From Duncan Aviation To Receive Honor

Aircraft Sales & Acquisition Representative Doug Roth of Duncan Aviation has received one of the FAA’s most prestigious awards for aviation pros, the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award, joining the distinguished group of veterans who exemplified their commitment to aviation excellence, flight safety, and operations.

The award is given to honor individuals who demonstrated outstanding expertise, venerable professionalism, and solid commitment for at least 50 years of piloting or 50 or more years of combined piloting and aircraft operations.

Roth becomes just the sixth member of Duncan Aviation to have received the elite award, with the others being Chair Emeritus Robert Duncan, the late Harry Barr, Larry Bartlett, Ed Bowes, and David Moll.

Upon receiving the award, Roth said, “It is very special to me to receive this award. It’s hard to believe it’s been 50 years—I just can’t believe it! It truly is an honor.”

He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa, and he said he vividly remembers his father doing touch-and-goes that sparked his interest airplanes and flying. His first solo flight was in a Cherokee 140, and his experiences buying and selling aircraft and performing in airshows were part of a very diverse aviation journey. He has participated in over 100 air shows and flown a wide variety of aircraft. His aerobatic skill and deep understanding of aircraft systems and performance were on full display during his air show routines.

Roth credits the late Harry Barr with having a more profound influence on his path than any other. He said, “Harry had such a vast knowledge of airplanes. From discussing aircraft values to moving airplanes from airport to airport, I learned so much from him. I never would be where I am in aerobatics without his encouragement.”

Roth’s advice to aspiring aviators is simple: “Follow your passion. It makes coming to work every day a lot more enjoyable when you’re doing something you love.”
