ICAS: Cheyenne Air Show Moving Forward

Viewing Will Be Set Up Like A Drive-In Movie

Our friends at the International Council of AirShows have pointed out a bright spot for the what's left of the 2020 airshow season...

As the likely first air show of the season for the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, ICAS explains that the Wings Over Warren Air Show (formerly known as Cheyenne Frontier Days) will feature the aforementioned jet team and multiple single-ship demo teams. The July 22nd show is planning to pivot and hold the event in the newly trending "drive-in" format at Warren Air Force Base in Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Viewing will be set up like a drive-in movie. You will be directed where to park and will need to stay in or directly around your vehicle. Each vehicle will have a space 15 ft. wide to ensure social distancing. The air show commentary will be broadcast on a couple of local radio stations.

The air show plans to fill the ramp with spectator vehicles and proceed without vendors on site to comply with socially distant guidelines currently in place for the region. Welcoming the F-22 and F-35 single-ship demo teams, the Wings Over Warren Air Show will also feature flyovers from the B-1B, B-2, B-52, C-130, and others.

Later this summer, just across town on September 12th and 13th, the Wyoming Air National Guard is planning to hold their second annual open house with the Wild West Air Show at the Cheyenne Regional Airport. The show will feature multiple ICAS member civilian performers, including Tom Larkin, Bob Freeman, Gary Rower, and many more.

Due to the rapidly changing public health guidelines, the event is working towards multiple solutions to host a socially safe event. Air show director Max McMillan believes that their event can help to bring hope and a positive outlook for the community to move forward.
