DJI Inspire 2 Shot Down In Ohio By An Angry Neighbor

An Angry Neighbor Reportedly Opened Fire On The Drone

A DJI Inspire 2 drone was shot down Thursday by someone who took exception to the aircraft flying near his home.

DroneDJ reports that the aircraft was flying at nearly 200 feet above the ground. The pilot said in a statement posted on Facebook that he was documenting the construction of a bridge in his neighborhood. He said he checked his log to see where the drone was lost, and went to a house that was near the location where contact with the drone was lost.

The person in that home hedged at first, but then admitted that he had shot down the drone. He returned the drone to the owner and apologized.

The pilot, identified in the DroneDJ story only as Rick G., said the neighbor told him that he thought he had airspace rights over his property, and that he thought the pilot was peeping into his backyard where his wife was sunbathing naked. But the pilot said it was late in the evening, and that was not the reason for his flight.

The pilot filed a report with the police, who said they would be turning it over to the local prosecutor.
