Daycare Group Turned Away From Canadian Air & Space Museum

Tour Was Cancelled Because Of Museum Eviction Notice

A group of daycare workers and their kids showed up at the Canadian Air & Space Museum at Downsview Park Friday morning to give the kids a tour of the museum, unaware of the facility's recent circumstances. But the museum wasn't allowed to let them in according to its landlord Downsview Park, who closed the its doors to regular business the previous week.

Access is now restricted to staff and Museum members only so they can pack up and vacate the premises. Once the building is clear, it will be mostly demolished and work will begin on a 4-pad hockey arena.

The museum normally hosts thousands of school children each year with scheduled tours. A visit to the Museum is on the Toronto Board of Education’s Grade 6 science and Grade 10 history curricula.

The museum’s home at 65 Carl Hall Road is the original site of the de Havilland Aircraft factory and the birthplace of Canada’s space program. It played a key role in Toronto and Canada’s rich aviation history.
