EAA Considering Flying B-17 to Make 'Out and Back' Tour Stops

Aircraft Returns To Oshkosh Immediately Following The Tour Stop

Sheltering in place has a lot of downsides and few upsides... and now that it might be possible to get out a little bit and see the world once again, EAA has an idea that will allow them to bring some aviation history to warbird lovers in selected locations.

EAA’s Flight Operations team is currently exploring sending the B-17 Aluminum Overcast on its first tour stops of 2020. These will be significantly modified tour stops adjusted because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first stop is currently scheduled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on October 23-25, hosted by EAA Chapter 33.

The condensed version of the usual B-17 tour stop includes no walk-through ground tours of the airplane, higher levels of disinfection between flights, and a return to Oshkosh immediately following the tour stop. There will also be minimum pre-booking levels prior to the tour stop to ensure that the trips will be cost effective.

Additional stops will be announced as they are finalized and subject to pandemic conditions in Oshkosh and the host cities.
