Angel Flight Toddler Loses Medical Battle

Angel Flight West Made It Possible For Mother, Daughter To Be Together

Aissa Taylor was born with a very serious medical condition that kept her in and out of hospitals for her three short years. The trip between Clovis, California and Palo Alto was a burden on Aissa's mother, Akilah until Angel Flight West came along.

Volunteer pilot Marc Sobel flew Akilah back and forth from Clovis to Palo Alto so she could be with her daughter, who suffered from a rare condition in which she was born with no intestinal lining. The hour-long flight made visits possible which would have been nearly impossible for Taylor any other way, and allowed the single mother to care for her other children as well.

Television station CBS47 in Fresno, California reports that Aissa lost her medical battle this past weekend, leaving her mother in disbelief.

In a story earlier this month, Sobel told the station “The payoff is always when the patient has a nice smile on them. And the big thank you. You know you made a big difference for them.”

More than 1,900 pilots volunteer for Angel Flight West, and similar organizations around the country offer empty seats on corporate aircraft free of charge to those who need them most.
