Waterlogged Cessna Passengers Rescued In Florida Keys

Aircraft Put Down 10 Miles North of Field Quickly Saved by Good Samaritan

The Florida Keys Marathon Airport saw the rescue of a crashed aircraft as the local Coast Guard Station's 33-foot Special Purpose boat responded to the call.

The passengers were found initially by a passing boat, but space was limited and speed lacking for an adequate rescue. The call for assistance had summoned the Guardians, who quickly arrived on scene to transfer them to their roomier craft. The 3 survivors were taken ashore to local emergency services for the treatment of their minor injuries.

The semi-submerged Cessna 210 is reportedly salvageable, with a commercial recovery specialist already contracted to recover it. Currently little information regarding the event has been released, or what resulted in the aircraft's water landing. The plane was located 10 miles to the north of Marathon International. Reportedly, the passengers are now doing well and on the mend, thanking the guardians for their efforts in the rescue as well.

“Thank you to the good Samaritan for arriving on scene and recovering the three survivors,” said Petty Officer 3rd Class Paul Altieri, a duty watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Key West.

“Their quick response undoubtedly played a tremendous role in this rescue.”
