Boeing IDS Wins Two Big Military Contracts

USAF, Navy Deals Worth $102 Million

Two big new contracts for Boeing's aerospace division... as the US Air Force and US Navy awarded programs worth a combined $102 million dollars last week.

Under an $80 million contract, the Air Force ordered a small diameter bomb weapons system that can be fitted to fighters, bombers, and unmanned aerial vehicles. The St. Louis Buisness Journal reports the system will include munitions, carriages, containers, miscellaneous support equipment, load trainers/carriages and flight termination system/telemetry.

For the Navy, Boeing will build and test 16 Reconfigurable Transportable Consolidated Automated Support Systems (RTCASS) that can be used to automatically test and troubleshoot aircraft electronic systems in the field. Boeing will also provide one RTCASS to the Air Force.

Both contracts are scheduled to be filled by late 2008.

The work is a big boost for Boeing's Integrated Defense Systems unit... which earlier this year reported a substantial drop in earnings.
