So, You Wanna Be A Sport Pilot?

November 15 First Day to Submit Sport Pilot Student Applications

Marty Weaver, manager of the FAA's Light-Sport Aviation Branch, confirmed Thursday that FAA's Registration Office in Oklahoma City will be ready to accept student pilot applications for sport pilot certificates beginning November 15, 2004. FAA expects to begin issuing the first sport pilot certificates by early January 2005.

To apply for a student sport pilot certificate, you must complete FAA Form 8710-11, available on the FAA website, and submit the application to a local Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) or to a designated pilot examiner (DPE).

After sport pilot examiners (SPEs) are named, student sport pilot certificates can be submitted to them as well. FAA expects to make SPE appointments in early January 2005
