Sean DeRosier Memorial Scholarship Takes Flight

ICAS Foundation Opens Special Application Window

The ICAS Foundation just announced that applications will be accepted during August and September for the Sean DeRosier Memorial Scholarship. The scholarship is available to a young man or woman with a private pilot license between the ages of 18 and 31 and residing in the western United States, defined as the states of California, Oregon, Washington, Nevada or Idaho.

The scholarship is to be used toward aerobatic flight training or schooling toward obtaining an A&P license. The 2005 scholarship winner will be announced during the ICAS Convention in December.

The scholarship fund was initiated with a donation from the organizers of the MCAS Cherry Point Air Show and Sean D. Tucker. The scholarship honors air show pilot and ICAS member Sean DeRosier, who died while performing at the MCAS Miramar Air Show in San Diego last October. Sean’s parents, Ben and Doris DeRosier, Sean’s fiancé Tami Martin, family friends Gigi Brisson and Lonnie Autry, Jr., and Sean’s childhood friend Brant Seghetti will serve on the first selection committee.

Interested applicants may obtain application materials and submission instructions from the ICAS Foundation web site at www.icasfoundation.org. Applications must be received by September 30, 2005.

“This scholarship is a fitting tribute to Sean,” said Ben DeRosier. “He loved to fly, and if he wasn’t flying, he was in the shop working on one airplane or another.”

The ICAS Foundation is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to preserving the air show industry's valuable heritage through cataloging and storing of artifacts, articulating the value of air shows and demonstration flying to the public, helping families of those in the air show industry who have suffered tragedy, and supporting the pilots and performers of the future through scholarships. In addition to the scholarship funds which memorialize air show industry leaders, the Foundation’s programs include an Air Show Hall of Fame and a Family Fund to assist families when tragedy strikes within the air show community.
