Tunisian President's Family Plane Seized By French Authorities

NGOs Claim President, Family Holding Assets Belonging To Tunisia

A business jet belonging to the family of deposed Tunisian President Zine al-Abidine Ben Ali has been seized by French officials near Paris. The move is part of the EU's effort to freeze the assets of Ben Ali and his wife after being ousted in a popular revolt.

The aircraft, a Bombardier jet, was seized at Le Borget airport as part of an investigation which began after several non-governmental organizations (NGOs) filed a lawsuit to have the deposed leader's assets returned to Tunisia if it is proven they were taken illegally.

Reuters reports that the groups, Transparency International, Sherpa, and the Arab Commission for Human Rights assert that Ben Ali and is family are in possession of valuable real estate in Paris, as well as large bank accounts.
