Biden Appearance On Leno Snarls LAX Traffic

Some Flights Delayed For Four Hours

When Vice President Joe Biden appeared on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno Friday night, he had "no idea" he was holding up traffic at Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX).

At least, that's what the veep is saying through his spokesman.

"I know we didn't ask for anything. There was no sign of any stoppage. And there shouldn't have been one," said Biden spokesman James Carney.

And yet, the Vice President's trip to LA for the late-night talk show reportedly stopped a number of flights from coming in, and delayed outgoing flights from 45 minutes to up to four hours, according to the blog "The Wrap". The author of the blog apparently was one of those stuck at KLAX waiting for a plane to depart.

A TFR is SOP when the President travels. FAA spokeswoman Lauren Brown told the blog that there had been a "brief ground hold" on flights at KLAX, but did not elaborate on exactly how long that ground hold was in effect. One official described as "close to the situation" said the delay was no more than 45 minutes. There is no VIP TFR NOTAM listed on the FAA website for Los Angeles on Friday night.
