Airborne 05.17.19: Virgin Galactic, Rotax 914, FlightDesign F2

Also: Robinson Delivers 2 More Cadets, Bristow Group Bankruptcy, Gogo AVANCE L3, IFD Software Upgrade

At a press conference late last week in Santa Fe, Virgin Founder Sir Richard Branson announced that Virgin Galactic’s development and testing program had advanced sufficiently to move the spaceline staff and space vehicles from Mojave, California to their commercial operations headquarters at Spaceport America, New Mexico.

The move, which involves more than 100 staff, will commence immediately and continue through the summer, to minimize schooling disruption for families. Rotax has issued a NEW Service Instruction for 914 (series) engines. Effective immediately, the ignition check ("Mag Drop") limits found on Page 3-9 of the current 914 Operators Manual have increased from 300/115 to 500/150. This update will be incorporated into the next revision of the 914 Operators Manual. If your aircraft is equipped with a Rotax 914 (Series) aircraft engine, you should familiarize yourself and/or have your aircraft maintenance provider become familiar with the contents of this document. Flight Design his taken the wraps off its latest GA airplane ... the F2. The spacious ‘extra-large’ cabin of the F2 has been designed for extra rigidity and incorporates a combination of dynamically tested passenger seats, panel-mounted AMSAFE airbags and an Airframe Emergency Parachute System (AEPS). The atmosphere inside the F2 is improved with modern heating/fresh air system and comfortable leather covered adjustable seats. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
