AMT Magazine Launches Online IA Renewal

First online IA renewal program to provide FAA-approved training

Aircraft Maintenance Technology (AMT) magazine has announced it will offer the first-of-its-kind online Virtual IA Renewal/AMT Awards Seminar beginning October 2004. A&P and IA technicians will be able to log onto AMT's Web site and participate in the IA renewal seminar, giving thousands of technicians around the world the ability to receive FAA-approved training while reducing their burden of travel, expenses, and time.

"Starting in October, technicians can begin to work on their IA renewal credits throughout the year working at their own pace on any computer with Internet access," says AMT magazine Publisher Greg Napert. "The concept is simple; the idea is to mimic the already popular regional IA seminars in a virtual online environment."

The FAA-approved web-based seminar will consist of slide presentations with streaming audio. Unlike live presentations, technicians may view the online seminar program at their leisure and review the presentation as often as needed for a full year.

Technicians who complete eight seminar hours will be eligible for IA renewal as long as two hours of FAA regulatory seminars are taken, which will also be available with the virtual program. In addition, credits will be applicable toward the FAA AMT Awards Program.

"This will open the door for recurrency training for mechanics who didn't previously have access to the live seminars," adds Napert. "Technicians should still attend live seminars where possible, and we encourage that. This is an opportunity to supplement those live presentations with our online seminars and offers a unique opportunity for manufacturers, aftermarket suppliers, parts and accessory suppliers, service providers, and others to enhance delivery of information to aircraft maintenance personnel."
