P&WC Certifies PW127M For ATR Regional Turboprops

Transport Canada, EASA Sign Off On Upgraded Powerplant

Pratt & Whitney Canada announced Monday it received type certification from Transport Canada and the European Aviation Safety Agency for the PW127M engine, the newest member in the PW100 regional turboprop family. The company says the PW127M offers five percent more power compared to its PW127F predecessor.

The PW127M is a derivative of the PW127F and PW127E engines that currently power the ATR 42-500 and ATR 72-500 regional turboprop aircraft. The PW127M will be offered on these aircraft going forward, and will also be the standard engine on the newest versions of ATR’s aircraft, the ATR 42-600 and the ATR 72-600.

"The new PW127M turboprop engine is designed to deliver even better performance in both hot and high conditions," said Keyvan Fard, senior vice president, Sales & Marketing. "It is the most recent example of our clear commitment to the regional turboprop market."

The Longueuil, Quebec-based enginemaker notes worldwide orders for regional turboprop-powered aircraft have surged in recent years, due largely to the advantages they offer in lower fuel consumption and emissions within the short-haul regional airline sector. The PW100 family is a leader in this market, with over 4,000 engines flying in 121 countries and more than 100 million operating hours accumulated to date.
