Assembly Took "Experienced Amateur Builder" 10 Months
The first Texas Sport Cub kit delivered to an international
buyer has been completely assembled, the American Legend Aircraft
Company announced Tuesday. The kit was delivered to Brazil in early
2009, and the new owners took approximately ten months to complete
its construction.

The Texas Sport kit is based on the popular Legend Cub design,
and it enables amateur aircraft builders to fabricate their own CUB
with any number of features and options. Both the Legend Cub and
Texas Sport are similar to the widely recognized J-3 Piper Cub, yet
incorporate many modern features. The 1st delivered international
Texas Sport kit was assembled by experienced amateur aircraft
builder FLYER Indústria Aeronáutica of Sao Paolo,
Brazil.
American Legend says the Texas Sport
gives customers who are interested in a Cub-type aircraft all the
advantages of the classic design, plus a wide variety of
customization opportunities. The kit is based on the LSA certified
Legend Cub, and is constructed at the same factory. Both aircraft
utilize customized tooling, newly manufactured components, and
proven assembly processes. The Texas Sport starts with a fully
welded chromoly airframe sealed for corrosion protection. Its wings
are predominantly aluminum, including custom extruded aluminum spar
and rib frames, exceeding the durability of the historic wood
wings, but matching the original Cub airfoil. Texas Sport kit
customers follow a detailed, and illustrated, manual for a major
portion of the aircraft's assembly, fulfilling FAA 51-percent
requirements for amateur-built aircraft. Builders of the Texas
Sport kit also complete the fabric covering, interior finishes,
instrument panel assembly, and engine installation.

The company says that some of the key features differentiating
the Texas Sport from vintage Cubs include a design with electric
start that additionally provides for electrically powered
instruments, avionics, and lighting options. The Texas Sport can be
flown solo from either the front or rear seat. It stores fuel it
its dual wing tanks, and the Texas Sport features doors and windows
open on both sides of the aircraft adding to its wider frame and
true open cockpit feel.
