“Freedom of Flight” Event Treats Local Heroes to Rides on the Iconic Bomber

In August, the Commemorative Air Force’s legendary B-25 bomber will be part of a very special “Freedom of Flight” event at Michigan’s Menominee Regional Airport (MNM). Rides on “Miss Mitchell” will be offered to veterans and open for public purchase.

The Menominee Regional Airport will host its annual Airport Day event, “Freedom of Flight,” on Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. The free, family-friendly experience is open to the public and will take place at 2801 22nd Street, Menominee, MI, just northwest of the city’s business district.

The centerpiece of this year’s event is an appearance from “Miss Mitchell”: a fully restored, World War II-era B-25 bomber operated by the Commemorative Air Force Minnesota Wing. The aircraft will be on-site from August 1 to 3, with flight experiences available throughout the weekend. Tickets are a standard $495 per seat, and rides are open to anyone aged 12 and older who meets the boarding requirements. Veterans will be honored with a flag-raising ceremony and the first flight of the day aboard the B-25.

The event will also feature a static aircraft display, flight simulator experiences, and information booths on learning to fly, assisted by the Civil Air Patrol. Local police and fire departments will host public safety demonstrations, and a bike “show and shine” for kids is planned, potentially including helmet giveaways and safety seminars. A new addition to the 2025 program is a car show, centering on modern vehicles and community participation.

“Freedom for Flight” is being spearheaded by Menominee EAA Chapter 1672 in collaboration with the CAF Minnesota Wing. Advance sign-up for B-25 rides is encouraged due to limited seating and expected high demand.
