Airborne 06.01.20: Epic Deliveries, Electric Caravan, Russian Fighters

Also: Navy Laser v Drone, Virgin Orbit Update, Black Hawk-Genesys Cockpit, CAF Mississippi Wing

Epic Aircraft has completed delivery of its first two E1000 all composite, single-engine turboprop aircraft, following the successful conclusion of its FAA Type Certification program last year.

“Completing these deliveries is a tremendous milestone for our company and our customers. The E1000 is a remarkable aircraft and seeing the enthusiasm of our owners as they take delivery is extremely gratifying. This is the successful culmination of eight years of hard work, extensive investment, and a passionate belief in our product,” said Epic CEO, Doug King. magniX and AeroTEC have completed a successful flight of an all-electric Cessna Grand Caravan 208B. The successful flight of the eCaravan, magnified by a 750-horsepower (560 kW) magni500 propulsion system, took place at the AeroTEC Flight Test Center at the Grant County International Airport (KMWH) in Moses Lake, Washington Thursday morning. Allegedly the world’s largest all-electric commercial aircraft, the companies consider this to be a significant milestone. For the third time in two months, Russian pilots flew in an unsafe and unprofessional manner while intercepting a U.S. Navy P-8A Maritime Patrol and Reconnaissance Aircraft in U.S. Sixth Fleet, May 26, 2020. On May 26, 2020, a U.S. Navy P-8A aircraft was flying in the Eastern Mediterranean over international waters and was intercepted by two Russian Su-35 aircraft over a period of 65 minutes. The intercept was determined to be unsafe and unprofessional due to the Russian pilots taking close station on each wing of the P-8A simultaneously, restricting the P-8A’s ability to safely maneuver. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne!!!
