FAA Grants Total $20.5 Million For Airport Projects

25 Awards For Airports In 14 States And Puerto Rico

The FAA announced a series of grant awards it will distribute under the administration’s Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that will send $20.5 million to 25 airports across 14 states and Puerto Rico for airport modernization. The grants are some of the first to be awarded out of a $25 billion total to be distributed over the next five years.

The Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) are to be used for projects such as planning, development, sustainability, terminal expansion, baggage system upgrade, runway safety improvements, and noise compatibility efforts at eligible airports.

The funding for these grants stems from one of the three aviation grant programs established by the law. So far, $12 billion of the $15 billion has been made available for AIG funding.

Some of the airports receiving grants from this dispersal include:

  • Fernando Luis Ribas Dominicci Airport (TJIG) in Puerto Rico: $4.2 million
  • Del Rio International Airport (KDRT) in Texas: $3 million
  • Meridian Regional Airport/Key Field (KMEI) in Mississippi: $1.7 million
  • Brownsville South Padre Island International Airport (KBRO) in Texas: $1.5 million
  • Massena International Airport-Richards Field (KMSS) in New York: $341,735

Shanetta R. Griffin P.E., the FAA Associate Administrator for Airports said, “Today's investments continue our vital work of keeping passengers safe, improving their travel experience, and helping our airports be great neighbors, while demonstrating our commitment to safety, sustainability, and capacity for generations to come.”
