Airborne 01.31.24: Amelia Found?, Skywagon Breaks Thru Ice, 'Jetson Bill'

Also: NetJets Row, Flight Jacket Artwork, Event Canceled Due To FAA, Airwolf Gains STC

After an extensive deep-water search, a group of underwater archaeologists and marine robotics experts claim to have found a sonar image that may answer a great mystery - the disappearance of Amelia Earhart.

Captured westward of Earhart's projected landing point, in a swath of the Pacific untouched by known wrecks, the image reveals contours that mirror the unique dual tails and scale of her storied aircraft. A 1983 Cessna 185F Skywagon practicing touch-and-go's at Ogden, Utah's Pineview Reservoir broke through the ice, stranding the two occupants with a partially-submerged aircraft. The occupants safely got out of the plane, trekking across the frozen lake on foot. Luckily, they exited the cockpit before it had completely submerged, meeting up with first responders ashore for much-needed warmth and a quick checkout at the local hospital. Samson Sky and Alef have been busy lobbying for a place in US law, trying to ensure their road-ready aircraft have a legal framework to operate under once they move to production. The 2020 passage of the "Jetson Bill" included wording to allow roadworthy aircraft to be registered for use on state roads and highways. All this -- and MORE in today's episode of Airborne-Unlimited!!!
