Texas PT-19 Crash Kills Pax, Injures Pilot

Eyewitnesses say aircraft lost engine power after takeoff and nosed into the ground

A PT-19 World War II trainer aircraft has crashed at Corsicana Municipal Airport in Corsicana (TX) after eyewitnesses saw the aircraft lose power and nose into the ground after takeoff.

Pilot Cliff McCluney was pulled from the wreckage with unknown injuries and was taken to a local hospital, but passenger Robert Burleson was declared dead on the scene.

Eyewitnesses claim that they saw the aircraft take off, and soon after it lost power and nosed into a pasture near the airport. Media reports say the eyewitnesses also saw the aircraft's landing gear retract... but the PT-19 is a fixed-gear primary trainer aircraft.

Both the pilot and passenger were in their 60's. The FAA, NTSB and Texas Department of Public Safety were on the scene and have begun an investigation into the accident.
