FAA Certified! DA42-TDI Twin Star Earns TC

Diamond's new high tech twin, the DA42-TDI Twin Star, has received FAA certification.

The type certificate will be presented by Mr. John Hickey, FAA's Director of Aircraft Certification Services, at 10:00am, Thursday, July 28th, at Diamond's display (Hangar C, Combo L) at the EAA AirVenture. Joining Peter Maurer, President of Diamond Aircraft Industries at the presentation will be Gary Kelley, Director of Sales and Marketing Garmin International, Frank Thielert, CEO of TAE Aircraft Engines, as well as Dr. Ron Smart, Director UVSC Aviation Science Department and North American launch customer for the Twin Star.

With its modern carbon composite airframe, twin jet fuel burning TAE Centurion 1.7 turbo-diesel engines and the fully integrated Garmin G1000 glass flight deck, the Twin Star is the undisputed technology leader in its class.  "The DA42-TDI is the world's very first certified piston aircraft that incorporates new technology airframe, powerplant, and avionics technology," said Peter Maurer.

"This aircraft demonstrates that the government's AGATE initiative to foster advances in general aviation technology has effectively spurred on the exciting advances we are seeing in our industry. We are particularly grateful for the excellent support and cooperation from the EASA and the FAA in making this a reality." Certification for the Lycoming powered DA42, also on display, is expected later this year.

Diamond has already delivered over 35 Twin Stars in Europe and initial US deliveries are anticipated prior to year end.
