ASA Publishes 3rd Edition of “Pilots in Command”

Accumulated Airline Knowledge Offers Newbies A Leg Up in their PIC Duties

“Pilots In Command: Your Best Trip, Every Trip” by Kristofer Piersen is now being published in its 3rd edition, offering readers a plethora of information gleaned from years of experience working the line.

The book centers on the common sense guidance needed to become not just a PIC, but a Captain in the traditional sense. The new edition is available as a softcover print or ebook.

“Pilots In Command: Your Best Trip, Every Trip goes beyond what is required by flight training curricula, into what is both a rarity and a necessity: solid advice to student and professional aviators about how to be transformational leaders.” As a part of its 3rd edition printing, Pilots In Command includes new, updated information tailored to the hiring, training, and daily work of an airline pilot, helping new additions to any company manage their transition with grace and foresight. The new edition also “expands the previous edition’s discussions on culture, professionalism, pilot schedules and bidding” as well as addresses “safety for today’s airline operations, maintaining professional excellence and optimizing your quality of life as an airline pilot."

This edition also includes an entirely new chapter on preparing for the initial qualifications course, encompassing aircraft systems training, flight deck procedures training, maneuvers training, line oriented flight training, and the line oriented evaluation. Additional topics of emphasis help to build leadership on the flight deck, with coverage regarding crew roles, crew briefings, flight attendants, crew resource management, threat and error management, transitioning to the line, initial operating experience, ground services, dispatch, customer service, abnormal and emergency situations, layovers, and 14 CFR Part 117’s rest rule.
