DronePort Launches Airspace Awareness Projects At Oklahoma Industrial Airparks

Vigilant’s FlightHorizon Will Monitor And Report Drone Traffic

DronePort Network announced the launch of its Community Airspace Awareness Project (CAAP) at two Oklahoma sites, Ardmore Industrial Airpark and Mid-America Industrial Park.

The project supports the buildout of drone and autonomous flight operations centers by offering developers a solution for airspace monitoring and enhancing safety. This is possible with real-time traffic alerts and detailed longer-term traffic reporting in what may grow into low-altitude airspace congested with pilot-controlled or autonomous commercial drone traffic.

The heart of the system is FlightHorizon, a cutting-edge system with multi-sensor detect-and-avoid airspace management developed by Vigilant Aerospace Systems, with offices in Oklahoma and North Dakota. DronePort Network has used FlightHorizon previously and currently uses it at the Skyway 36 droneport in Tulsa. Its experience with that application will be used in the management of these two new projects, and the company envisions a larger framework where additional capabilities such as active surveillance can be integrated as the system matures.

Craig Mahaney, CEO of DronePort Network said, “Our mission with CAAP is to empower local communities by giving them the tools to understand and manage their airspace. As aviation technology evolves, it’s critical for localities to stay ahead and informed, and CAAP provides a scalable, low-cost, introductory solution to meet that challenge with the flexibility to scale for the future.”

DronePort Network is accepting applications from other organizations and communities around the country to join the CAAP network. They can be contacted by following the link below.
