Location: Corona, CA Accident Number: WPR22LA302
Date & Time: August 13, 2022, 12:48 Local Registration: N532KB
Aircraft: Goddard Dick Sim Bensen B-8M Injuries: 1 Minor
Flight Conducted Under: Part 91: General aviation - Personal

On August 13, 2022, about 1248 Pacific daylight time, a Dick Sim Goddard Benson B-8M gyroplane, N532KB, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident in Corona, California. The sport pilot sustained minor injuries. The gyroplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

The pilot reported that, during the first flight of the day he remained in the airport traffic pattern. Shortly after turning to final approach, he heard a “bang” and felt a loss of engine power. The pilot attempted to maintain airspeed; however, the gyroplane entered a descending, uncontrollable, slow spin to the left. Just before impact, the pilot was able to flare and touch down in a level attitude. The gyroplane impacted the ground with a right sideload.

The main rotor blades struck the ground and the gyroplane rolled onto its right side.
