Department Expands All-Bell Fleet, Adding Public Safety Capabilities

Bell Textron announced the delivery of two Bell 407 GXi helicopters to the Chicago Police Department, expanding the operational capabilities of its Helicopter Operations Unit to provide additional public safety command-and-control for its first responders.

The all-Bell helicopter fleet of the Department serves more than 2.6 million residents in the city, and the new pair of aircraft enhance its ability to provide homeland security through increased aerial recon and surveillance operations.

The Bell 407GXi is equipped with single-pilot IFR capability and adjustable cabin space that can seat up to five, allowing operators to perform in demanding environments as well as transport essential public safety equipment.

The aircraft is also equipped with a cargo hook able to carry 3,100 pounds of gear and equipment, adding to its tactical capabilities.
