Crowdfunding Effort Would Help Rebuild Airplane

Aircraft Was Damaged In Slow-Flight Competition In Alaska

A damaged airplane is never a fun thing, and when it's an airplane that you've spent a year to build, and love to fly, it's even worse.

But that's what happened to Tom Hudzinski. He was flying his SQ2 backcountry super cruiser in a slow-flight competition in Alaska recently ... and had his speed over the ground down to 17 miles per hour. That's when the wind suddenly dropped, and so did Hudzinski's SQ2.

Hudzinski was not hurt in the accident, but the airplane didn't fare so well. And his insurance application was still sitting on the coffee table at home.

Hudzinski is fairly well known known in bush pilot circles, and when some of his friends asked what they could do to help, one established a presence on the crowdfunding site GoFundMe to help raise money to effect repairs on his airplane.

According to the site: "Tom gave his consent, but is in no way asking for a handout or contribution. He is a real Alaskan Bush Pilot and will rebuild his SQ2 regardless. For those of you who would like to help him out, share the GoFundMe page and follow his progress."

The effort has a goal of $50,000, and still has a long way to go.
