Aero-TV: Safety Tip of the Week – How to Pre-Flight Your Engine

Rotax Expert Eric Tucker Explains How to Pre-Flight Check the 912 ULS

In order for aircraft owners to get the most out of their engines, it is essential to understand proper operation and maintenance procedures. Many of the most common engine problems are preventable through routine maintenance and can ensure an engine reaches its expected T.B.O. (Time Between Overhaul) benchmark.

Prescribed maintenance procedures can be found in each engines respective manual, available online at http://www.rotax-aircraft-engines.com/. Common evaluations include spark plug changes, oil changes, and periodical gearbox checks. A crucial aspect to both safety and proper engine maintenance is thorough pre-flight engine inspection.

As the Rotax 912 ULS is a common LSA engine, Aero-TV took the opportunity to discuss basic engine maintenance at the 2010 Sport Aviation Expo.

Join Aero-TV as Rotax factory-trained technician, Eric Tucker, explains the fundamental steps that should be integrated in every pre-flight inspection.
