FreeFlight Systems Radar Altimeters Receives EASA ETSO Approval

RA-4000 And RA-4500 Receive ETSO-2C87 From EASA

A pair of radar altimeters from FreeFlight Systems have  received ETSO-C287 from EASA. The RA-4000 and RA-4500 Radar Altimeters, consisting of a remote unit and dual antennas, provide AGL information from 2500 feet down to ground level. Both radar altimeters can interface to the stand-alone digital display, FreeFlight Systems RAD-40. The RA-4500 Radar Altimeter also offers ARINC 429 output allowing interface with modern electronic flight information systems (EFIS) and flight director systems. Both systems are light weight at only 1.9 lbs, and are self-calibrating for easy installation.

"Receiving the ETSO offers our customers in Europe a much lower cost-solution for their radar altimeter needs, especially when interfacing with an EFIS system," said Tim Taylor, FreeFlight Systems' President and CEO. "The precision of the RA-4500 is exceptional even over 'soft' terrain such as high grass, blowing sand or water."

"I am excited to offer the RA-4500 to meet the radar altimeter regulation JAR-OPS 3.660 in Europe," said Stephane Duchesne, FreeFlight Systems' European representative. "ECT Industries already has STCs underway for the RA-4500 in the Eurocopter AS350 and AS355, which are expected to be completed soon. We are looking to expand the list of STCs in the future."

The RA-4000 offers a serial interface, weighs 1.9lbs, and is priced at $8,665 retail. The RA-4500 offers ARINC 429 interface, weighs 1.9lbs, and is priced at $9,925 retail.
