Four Injured in Navy Helo Mishap

Damaged In The Wash

An MH-53 Sea Dragon (file photo of type, right) helicopter from Helicopter Support Squadron (HC) 4, suffered a mishap resulting in a fire on the ground at the fresh water wash station on the taxiway at US Naval Air Station (NAS) Sigonella August 10th at approximately 1950 local. Four crewmembers were aboard at the time of the accident.

The crewmembers are all in stable condition, and the injuries are being assessed. The names of the crewmembers are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Firefighters and security from NAS Sigonella are at the scene of the accident. The scene is secured and the fire was extinguished quickly after the incident occurred. Damage to the aircraft is extensive and is currently being assessed. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
