ANN's Daily Aero-Linx (09.07.16)

Aero-Linx!

Scouring the information super airways can sometimes be a tough, if educational, task for the Aero-News staff... but it also allows us to check out some truly neat and exciting sites, so it's not that bad a gig. On any given day, we may check dozens (and often hundreds) of different sources for story ideas, and facts confirmation. And, as is the nature of our business, much of this is done on the Internet.

The ANN gang decided we probably shouldn't keep some of the neat sites, info resources, and organizations we've discovered to ourselves... so we decided to bring you Aero-Linx. These are the sites that WE check out -- when we need added perspective, a new spin on a day's topic... or just want to escape into cyber-aero-space for awhile.

Look for some of our favorite sites, coming each day to ANN via Aero-Linx. Suggestions for future Aero-Linx segments are always welcome, as well.

Aero Linx: P-47 42-27609's Story, Photos and Updates

AirCorps Aviation specializes in the restoration, maintenance, and rebuilding of vintage WWII aircraft. They bring forth experience, dedication, passion, and award-winning detail that shows in every project we take on.

One project is a P-47D-23 RA which served in the Southwest Pacific. It was abandoned at Dobodura Airfield on Papua New Guinea in 1944. Later it was recorded as sitting in the yard of a house in Popondetta, the capital of Oro province in northern Papua New Guinea.

AirCorps Aviation is researching the unit it served with. They say they know it was 5th Air Force and probably part of either the 348th or 58th Fighter Group. One squadron of the 348th has been eliminated (the 342nd)  and the 35th Fighter Group remains a slim possibility. The airplane's story, and lots of photos, are included.
