Best of OSH25: The Long-Awaited Van’s RV-15 Kit Enters Production

Wing Kits LIVE on the Van’s Aircraft Website, Deliveries Expected This Year

Van’s Aircraft recently announced that its much-anticipated high-wing kit, the RV-15, has officially gone into production. Wing kits will be the first off the line, with deliveries expected before the year’s end.

“The RV-15 is a game changer for the backcountry flying community and Van’s Aircraft,” explained Mikael Via, Van’s Aircraft CEO. He added that it has “the ideal mix of very low stall speeds and docile handling that backcountry pilots love with unexpectedly high cruise speeds.”

Van’s Aircraft is an iconic name in the homebuilt community, with more than 11,000 aircraft flying worldwide. The RV-15 marks the company’s first departure from its trademark low-wing look, opting instead for a backcountry-capable, high-wing layout. It’s powered by a Lycoming IO-390 EXP-119 paired with an 80-inch composite Hartzell Trailblazer propeller, giving the two-seat aircraft a cruise speed of 140 knots.

The RV-15 was first unveiled at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh in 2022, with the original goal of hitting the market in mid-to-late 2023. Updates at the 2024 show included a revised production target of late 2025, followed by news in March that Van’s had made substantial progress in finalizing the design.

This year, Van’s exceeded its own revised schedule by officially launching RV-15 production on the opening morning of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. Wing kits, which feature pre-punched aluminum skins and structural components for ease of assembly, are now available on the company’s website at an introductory price of $19,650.

Kicking off the production timeline, the first wing kit deliveries are slated for later this year. Tail kits are planned for release in December 2025, with deliveries beginning in March 2026. Fuselage and firewall-forward kits will follow in August 2026, and finish kits are scheduled for November 2026. All kit deliveries are expected to wrap up before the end of 2027. The combined cost for all five kits is projected to remain under $85,000, making it a relatively accessible project for new and veteran homebuilders alike.
