Aerobatic Regional Champion Goes West

Oregon Fixture Marianne Fox, Fiancée of IAC President Passes in XC Plane Accident

The International Aerobatic Club announced some somber news to members this morning, when they recognized the death of one of their own, taken too soon during a short, everyday cross country flight.

Marianne Fox took to aerobatic flight quickly and eagerly, according to club mates in Oregon. Beginning her logbook in 2019, she soon earned her private pilot license and began flying in the Primary aerobatic category at her home port of Corvallis, Oregon in 2020. The following year, she was able to climb up into the Sportsman category and fly in 5 contests, even placing first in class in the Northwest Region. Fox was a constant fixture of the aerobatic scene, always happy to lend a hand and make new friends.

Once in the world of the sport, she reportedly threw herself headlong into helping out anywhere she could. Marianne served as the contest director of the 2021 Corvallis Corkscrew, with a variety of other positions at every contest she attended. "When not acting as the friendly registrar greeting the competitors, Club spokeswoman Lorrie Penner said, "she could frequently be found on the judge's line recording or acting as assistant judge."

She will be greatly missed by the Oregon aerobatic community, and aviators throughout the scene as another friend gone too soon. "Adventurous, charming, intelligent and caring," Penner continued, "Marianne inspired those around her. Her enthusiasm for aviation and aerobatics was infectious. She delighted in the close company of her innumerable friends and her amazing family."
