Boeing Shortening List Of Potential 777X Manufacturing Sites

North Carolina, Pennsylvania Have Missed The Cut

Boeing is cutting down on the number of states where it is considering building the 777X in anticipation of making an announcement early in 2014.

Company spokesman Doug Alder said that the planemaker has begun notifying officials in states that are no longer under consideration, however he did not specify which states have been dropped from the list.

The Seattle Times reports that officials in North Carolina and Pennsylvania have confirmed that they have received notification from Boeing that they are no longer in the running. North Carolina had offered three potential sites: Piedmont Triad International Airport in Greensboro, Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, and Global TransPark in Kinston. The state Department of Commerce told local officials in those locations in December that they had not been included on Boeing's latest list.

A Pennsylvania Department of Economic and Community Development spokesman also heard from Boeing in mid-December, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Boeing received responses from 54 sites in 22 states when it announced it was shopping for a location to build its new widebody airplane. “We’re appreciative of everyone who has taken part, and our teams continue to evaluate the sites that remain under consideration,” Alder said.
