RIP: Anna Boettger

Aviation Enthusiast Heads West At 105

Aviation Pioneer Anna Boettger will be remembered Monday at a memorial service, after she passed away in Omaha, NE, Thursday. An adventurer to the end, Anna was 105-years old.

We have no information that Anna actually held a pilot's rating. But she was the last surviving witness to one of the very first flights ever to grace the skies over Nebraska in 1910. That's when Charles Baysdorfer took to the skies in an event she recounted for a book written in 1994.

Her love of aviation got her right-seat privileges in some very cool places, according to the Omaha World-Herald. She rode in a helicopter through Royal Gorge. She got to handle the controls on a fixed-wing flight over Pikes Peak and, on her 100th birthday, took a ride in a Piper Cub.

Anna Boettger has gone west, to a place where every day is a good day to fly. Happy trails, Anna.
