Two Planes Diverted Over The Weekend In Unrelated Incidents

On One, A Passenger Tried To Open A Cabin Door In-Flight

Passengers on board a Continental flight from Chicago to Houston got a scare Sunday when a passenger suffering from a panic attack tried to open one of the airplane's doors in flight. Just for the record, that can't be done.

Another passenger on the flight said they had been airborne for about an hour and 15 minutes when she heard "a blood-curdling scream," and saw several men rush to the front of the plane, according to a report in The Wall Street Journal. The passenger was subdued and the plane was diverted to Lambert St. Louis airport, where he was removed from the aircraft and it continued on to Chicago.

Another flight, this one a Delta leg between San Diego and Detroit was diverted to Albuquerque, NM, where authorities assessed an unidentified "security threat." The Associated Press reports that all 107 passengers on board the airplane were interviewed by FBI officials before the airplane was allowed to continue on to Detroit. Both airport and FBI officials declined to specify what was the nature of the security threat that caused the flight to be diverted.
