After a series of inauspicious fits and starts, NASA's Artemis I mission lifted off from Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral Florida on Wednesday 16 Novermber 2022 at 01:48 EST. Atop United Launch Alliance’s (ULA) 322-foot-tall Space Launch System (SLS) rocket was Lockheed-Martin’s Orion capsule which—pending a successful, Artemis I shakedown cruise—will eventually carry astronauts to the moon.

US Space Force Sees Success for Space Drone Experimentation

The Boeing X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle-6, or OTV-6, successfully deorbited and landed at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Shuttle Landing Facility earlier this week, marking the 6th successful flight for the uncrewed, reusable spaceplane. The mission was the first to include an attached service module, a modular, expandable system that will eventually add a range of capabilities to the X-37B should it enter service in earnest.

On 14 November 2022 at approximately 13:30 EST, a Cuban-registered Antonov An-2 crash-landed in Florida’s Everglades National Park approximately 13-nautical miles west of the Opa-Locka Airport (X46). The downed Antonov was discovered during an aerial patrol by the Miami-Dade Police Aviation Unit. Three weeks prior to the 14 November Everglades accident, Cuban national Martinez Machado landed the selfsame Antonov An-2 at the Dade-Collier Training and Transition Airport (TNT) while attempting to defect to the United States.

Three Crewmembers and 56 Dogs Suffer Only Minor Injuries

On Tuesday 15 November 2022 at approximately 09:00 CST, an Ameriflight Fairchild SA227-AT Expediter (N247DH) made an emergency landing on the links of the Western Lakes Golf Club in Pewaukee, Wisconsin. Notwithstanding the total loss of the 37-year-old Metroliner, its three crewmembers and cargo of 56 dogs survived the accident with only minor injuries.

The United States Air Force’s 96th Test Wing announced on 09 November 2022 that two XQ-58 Valkyrie drones had been transferred to the 40th Flight Test Squadron (FTS) at Florida’s Eglin Air Force Base. The 40th FTS will use the XQ-58s to test autonomous aircraft operations and airspace and safety processes.

Oklahoma Airport Modernized with ARPA, FAA Support

Oklahoma's Watonga Regional Airport recently hosted an opening ceremony in honor of the airport’s new 4,000-foot runway. The project revamped the facility's existing 4,000 ft by 60 ft runway with a number of modernizations and changes to meet current-day FAA standards, improving the airport with improved LED runway edge lighting for better visibility in IMC.

Airplane, While Flying Straight And Level, Suddenly Began A Steep Descent And Spun Near Vertically To The Ground

On October 18, 2022, at 0709 eastern daylight time, a Beech E-90, N515GK, was substantially damaged when it was involved in an accident in Marietta, Ohio. The two commercial pilots were fatally injured. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 positioning flight. The flight originated at the John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH), Columbus, Ohio about 0640 and was enroute to Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport (PKB), Parkersburg, West Virginia.

Aero Linx: The T-34 Association The T-34 Association was formed in July 1975 so that individuals purchasing then military surplus T-34A's  had an organization which would provide support for these aircraft. The idea was to share operating and maintenance information to all members. As the popularity of the T-34 Mentor grew over the years so did the T-34 Association. Today there are over 600 members in the Association and many are not aircraft owners.
