Candidates' Visits Triggers TFR Just As NBAA Is Closing
If you're headed out of Las Vegas Thursday, make sure you bring
a lunch to the airport. You may be waiting quite awhile. Both
presidential candidates will be in town. Just as NBAA is packing up
and all those business aircraft are leaving, Vegas will come under
a TFR.
Latest Generation Helicopter to Fly the Gulf for PHI
The first production Sikorsky S-92 helicopter is at its home
base, from which it will open up a new age of Gulf of Mexico
offshore service with Petroleum Helicopters, Inc. (PHI). The first
of two S-92 aircraft bought by the helicopter transportation
company to support deepwater drilling and production activity was
flown in September to PHI in Lafayette, La., from Sikorsky's main
plant in Connecticut. PHI's second S-92 is nearing delivery.
The year 2004 will go down in history as one in which many
significant milestones were achieved by Pilatus Aircraft. It
happens to be the 10th anniversary of the certification of the
business aviation industry’s market-leading PC-12 single
engine turboprop. Later this year Pilatus will deliver the 500th
PC-12, and the worldwide fleet is expected to surpass the 1,000,000
flight hour mark. What’s even more impressive is that 10
years into its production life, PC-12 sales continue on an upward
climb.
Aviation Technology Group (ATG) and Israel Aircraft Industries
(IAI) have signed a strategic cooperative agreement for the design,
development, and manufacture of an Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT).
Ava Kingsford was flying from Denver International Airport to
San Diego last month, along with her fiance and her three-month old
son. She says she stepped up to the security checkpoint and was
summarily chosen for a pat-down search. Everything seemed to be
going routinely until the female TSA screener who was patting her
down said, "I'm going to feel your breasts now."
A 43-year old man crashed his car through the fence surrounding
San Antonio International Airport on Saturday, bailed out of the
vehicle and ran toward a Delta flight departing for Atlanta.
Bombardier Aerospace has introduced the new Bombardier Learjet
40 XR, an enhanced version of the Learjet 40 light business jet
that entered service in January 2004.
Dassault Aviation has announced that Rockwell Collins’
Flight Dynamics Enhanced Vision System will be available as an
option for all new Falcons equipped with the EASy flight deck.
Certification and installation of the Enhanced Flight Vision System
(EFVS) is expected in the middle of 2006 for the Falcon 2000EX EASy
and 900EX EASy.
Company Releases White Paper On Eclipse 500 Reliability And
Maintainability
Eclipse Aviation Tuesday announced its first US Factory Service
Center location outside of its Albuquerque (NM) headquarters and
outlined its customer support plan for the Eclipse 500 twin-engine
jet. The company also released a white paper, "Reliability and
Maintainability Design of the Eclipse 500 Jet for High Utilization
Applications," that explains how the Eclipse 500 aircraft design
will increase aircraft reliability and reduce aircraft downtime for
both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance.

Eclipse Aviation Tuesday honored eight of its global supply team
partners at NBAA in Las Vegas, presenting them with awards for what
Eclipse called "their extraordinary performance." These suppliers
have provided Eclipse with superior support in the production of
its pre-production Eclipse 500 jet flight test fleet.
Can Reduce Cost of Spey and Tay Major Maintenance Events Up to
35 Percent
Dallas Airmotive's TomCat process, specifically developed for
Spey and Tay engines, can save operators up to 35 percent on their
turbine section overhauls. TomCat can safely extend the service
life of High Pressure Stage 1 (HP1) turbine blades for an
additional 4,000 hours or 10 years, whichever comes first, to
minimize the need for blade replacement.
Boeing is making its Class 3 Electronic Flight Bag available for
retrofit on Boeing Business Jets. The Boeing EFB contains the
documentation and forms that pilots carry – Jeppesen charts,
manuals for fault reporting and operations, minimum equipment lists
and logbooks – in digital format, and puts them at the crew's
fingertips.
"I was shaking, I was sobbing. I
couldn't believe that this was happening to me. It was surreal. It
was like out of a movie, with these guys yelling at me, telling me
that, yes, she has to feel my breasts or I'm not getting on my
airplane."
Source: Ava Kingsford, who told San Diego's
KGTV that, during a patdown at Denver International, a female
screener warned that she was going to feel Kingsford's breasts as
part of the routine search. Kingsford said she balked at the idea
and was verbally abused by screeners. In the end, she and her
fiance ended up renting a car and driving 15 hours to get home.
