Aircraft Down At Spruce Creek, FL Fly-In Community

Two Fatally Injured When Epic LT Impacted Terrain

An Epic LT on approach to the Spruce Creek, FL fly-in community went down Tuesday between two homes on the field, resulting in the fatal injury of the two people on board.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports that, according to FAA spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen, the airplane was on approach to Runway 5 at the airport. A person calling 911 to report the accident said that the plane had flown into a fog bank, and when it emerged, it was "in an inverted flat spin."

Volusia County (FL) Sheriff Ben Johnson said the plane "came pretty much straight down. It appears as though it barely missed two houses."

According to Flight Aware, the flight had originated at Millington Regional Airport Tuesday afternoon just before 1500 local time, and was scheduled to arrive at Spruce Creek at just before 1800. The fog started to form in the Port Orange area before 1700, according to the report.

FAA records indicate that Spruce Creek Resident Daryl Ingalsbe owns one of the type of aircraft involved in the accident, and county property records show he also owns a home at the community.

The names of those on board have not yet been released.
