Russian State Company Releases Magic Parachute

Lightweight Practice Chute for Acrobatic, Intermediate Training Use Granted O1 Approval

Rostec has received certification for its Magic sports parachute system, designed for single or team acrobatic skydiving at altitudes up to 13,000 feet. The product has been granted the O1 code, meaning it's in the clear for widespread use by Russian Armed Services, security agencies, and similar entities.

The parachute consists of a 9-section ram-air main chute, and a 7-section reserve, plus harness. The intermediate category wing is an ellipse, meant to be sufficiently tame-able for average parachutists with around 100 jumps of experience. Over their use and practice with the Magic, they can build the habits and techniques needed to move into high-speed, higher performance models. The Magic system derives its name largely in part from the lightweight, slender build designed to maximize freedom of movement for acrobatic postures while in freefall.

Upon introduction, a Rostec state rep said “The new sports parachute has several advantages. It is safe and easy to control, it deploys smoothly and is highly stable in turbulent conditions. It can be used for jumps at altitudes up to 4,000m and does not hinder acrobatic moves. The system has been assigned O1 code, meaning it is fully complied with the criteria set by the Ministry of Defense. We are ready to start mass production."

“The development of the Magic sports parachute system line involved new design and technology solutions as well as modern materials. For instance, the main parachute canopy is made of 100% air-tight fabric and its profile is narrower than that of its peers. The suspension lines are made of cord that is stable, does not stretch or shrink, and therefore does not alter the performance of the canopy. Due to the new, modern materials and the new design of the canopy the parachute has a higher horizontal descent speed and is more rigid and stable,” said Igor Nasenkov, general director of the parachute's developmental parent. The Technodinamika general director also said the Magic system can also be used for military training with a focus on landing precision, snap decisions, targeted landings, and jumping skills.
