Aspen Avionics Previews 'Evolving' Product Line At Lakeland

Work Well Underway On EFD1000 MFD, ATP-Variant PFD

With certification of its Evolution EFD1000 primary flight display still hot off the presses, the crew at Aspen Avionics previewed their upcoming line of Evolution multi-function displays.

Built upon the same certified hardwire platform as the PFDs, Aspen's MFD line adds additional situational awareness tools... while also providing a fully redundant backup to the PFD.

Announced last year at Oshkosh 2007, the EFD1000 MFD and PFD combine high-resolution, sectional-style moving maps with dedicated and overlaid hazard awareness displays -- including weather, traffic and terrain advisories and warnings. The EFD1000 MFD also adds a second, independent air data, attitude and heading reference (ADAHRS) system for full redundancy.

"As we did with our PFD development, we are actively seeking feedback and feature requests from pilots and dealers about they would like to see in a multi-function display," said Aspen President and CEO John Uczekaj. "Market demand for the Evolution PFDs had been strong, and we expect the same enthusiastic response to our MFD products."

Aspen also gave hints to its next variant of the EFD1000 PFD, the ATP. Due in the second half of 2009, the ATP will add many MFD features, including sectional-style moving maps and integrated hazard awareness interfaces, to the PFD navigation display.

A software option to upgrade the Pro PFD to ATP standards will be made available at the same time, Aspen added.
