Father, Son, Critically Hurt In Georgia Accident

Cherokee 140 Goes Down Off Runway At Cumming

Witnesses say weight may have been a factor in the crash of a Piper Cherokee 140, just off the end of the runway at Mathis Airport in Cummings (GA) Saturday.

Steve Pate was listed in critical condition at Atlanta's Grady Memorial Hospital. His son, Jeremy, was listed in fair condition at the Atlanta Regional Medical Center.

Airport manager Joe Voyles told local reporters, "He was a pretty good-size gentlemen and with the weight of his son and the luggage, he never fully got off the runway," Voyles said. "He went the full length and it looked like he stalled and went straight into the woods."
