Electronic Compass Calibration Suite Comes to EDMO

Simpler, Easier Compass Work Promised by Capital Avionics CA-420

EDMO has become a distributor of Capital Avionics' CA-420 Digital Sight Compass System, a "state-of-the-art portable magnetic heading standard" for testing and calibration.

The CA-420 Compass Sensor system, and its accompanying accessories, allows operators to calibrate aircraft compasses without using old-fashioned equipment like painted compass roses or conventional sighting. The CA-420A Sensor is a highly sensitive instrument able to measure the direction of the Earth's magnetic field in 3 axes in addition to pitch and roll attitudes. Its included rechargeable battery powers an on-board sighting laser, and wi-fi wireless antenna to connect remotely to the included Samsung tablet. All together, the suite allows operators to remain seated in the control stations while they calibrate the aircraft's internal compass, knowing they have 0.5 to 0.1 degrees of resolution.

Additional rigging is available to use the CA-420 system by attaching it to wings, horizontal stabs, strakes, and fuselages. While the system is mostly aimed at maintainers and techs for aircraft below 12,500 pounds, it can be used on larger transport aircraft and rotorcraft with the appropriate rigging and mounting accessories.
