Aero-TV: WIFI Goes Skyward - Aircell Brings Those Onboard Online

John Wade Outlines Aircell's Potential for the Aviation Industry

On April 8th through April 10th, in Orlando, Florida, hundreds attended the 53rd Annual AEA International Convention & Trade Show; founded in 1957, the Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA) represents more than 1,300 industry affiliates associated with the general aviation avionics and electronics systems.

At AEA's 2010 'New Product Introductions,' Aircell, the world’s leading provide of airborne communications, made several exciting announcements. Since acquiring an exclusive FCC frequency license in 2006, Aircell has built an extensive mobile broadband network for commercial and business aviation.

Using a network of over a hundred ground towers across North America, the Aircell Network is able to provide a true high speed Internet experience in the air, up to 56 times faster than a traditional dial-up connection.

Currently, 9 out of the top 10 commercial airlines have integrated the broadband service for passengers, with over 3,000 flights each day equipped with Aircell's inflight portal, Gogo®. In addition, Aircell's equipment is small enough to fit on virtually any business aircraft on the market. In total, over 1000 aircraft utilize Aircell's capabilities.

As the need for high-speed Internet continues to grow, Aircell has developed new usage-based billing options for business, military, government, and commercial aviation. In contrast to Aircell’s current service plans, providing unlimited access for a flat monthly fee, customers will be able to pay based on the monthly volume of data they consume over the network.

In addition, the company introduced the launch of a new educational series entitled, "Getting Your Business Aircraft Online: The Seminar." Throughout 2010, Aircell will travel to multiple cities to provide business aircraft operators a better understanding of inflight connectivity capabilities and an overview of the three networks currently available for aircraft: Inmarsat SwiftBroadband, Ku-band Satellite and Aircell High Speed Internet.

Join Aero-TV as Aircell’s Executive Vice President, John Wade, outlines Aircell’s current and future potential for the aviation industry, including the prospect of broadband-equipped general aviation aircraft.
