DARPA Awards Phoenix Project Follow-On Contract

NovaWurks 'Satlet' Process Seeks To Re-Purpose Components From Non-Working Satellites

DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) has awarded a $30.8 million Phoenix Project contract to NovaWurks covering  Phases II and III of the Phoenix Project for the development, delivery and operation of satlet solutions to repurpose valuable components from retired, non-working satellites in supersync orbit approximately 22,000 miles above the earth. The contract includes options for an additional $11.8 million that if exercised, would raise the total award to $42.6 million. The new contract is a follow on to the work NovaWurks performed during the competitive Phase I of the project that started in June of 2012.

We are pleased to have this opportunity to not just use HISats to construct a Conformal Spacecraft but also to use HISats to perform re-purposing operations while on orbit. It is a potentially exciting advancement in space services. This is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our team's skills and talent," said Talbot Jaeger, founder and Chief Technologist at NovaWurks.

NovaWurks provides space services and assembles Conformal Spacecraft, satellites for use in both LEO and GEO orbits using applied technologies that allow them to be configured as aggregated, reliable, flexible spacecraft for a variety of mission purposes.

"Our technologies and development process could drastically reduce costs and time-to-orbit opening up new, cost effective/cost feasible ways for payloads to get off the drawing board and into space," continued Jaeger. "At NovaWurks we are committed to renewing and improving the space business and altering the standard perception of our industry."
